The Museum of the Popular Front

The Museum of the Popular Frontis the storehouses of evidence of the Latvian modern history. The Museum contains a unique collection of objects and documents pertinent to striving for independence of the nation of Latvia at the end of the 20th century that has been perpetuated as the Third Awakening of Latvia; within the context of the world history it is also well-known as the Singing Revolution. Each person interested about these events can get acquainted with documents, photographs, newsreels that reflect historical processes of the Awakening, events and their participants. The Museum is a depository of historic evidence about the biggest people’s movement during the period of the regaining of Latvia’s independence – the Popular Front of Latvia that has played a major role in the restoration of the state of Latvia. 
Upon entering the museum and ascending the winding wooden stairs, one is instantly thrown back to a 20-year past, when the building served as the headquarters of the Popular Front of Latvia, the engine behind the restoration of the Latvian independence in 1991.
The most interesting part of the permanent exposition at the Museum of the Popular Front consists of the cabinet of the Chairman of the Popular Front of Latvia that has been fully preserved from those days. Time stands still here, as all the objects - furniture, wallpaper, 'old-school' typewriters, telephones, faxes, record players - encapsulate the downfall of the Soviet era they date from. _e authentic interiors are also a home to unique historical evidence - photographs and documents portraying the gripping period of the renowned 'Singing Revolution'.
The Museum displays thematic exhibitions devoted to the events of the Awakening.
