On 13 September ,1997 due to the European Cultural Heritage Days, which focused on 100 the most comprised Latvian Castles, also Varaklani castle was added to this number. To mark the occasion Varaklani City Council adopted a decision on the establishment of Regional Museum in Varaklani palace.
Unique frescos paintings of the 18 century were found out at the time of repair. These fresco paintings are valuable museum specimens. The historical exhibition was organized which reflected the historic events in the city and country.
0n the second June 2004 Varaklani Regional Museum was granted the accreditation certificate, as proof of a nationally recognized museum.
In the museum is regularly organized exhibitions and events are also promoted the program: newlyweds “ Road to the title”, and pupils "Without a past has no future”
The museum has developed several projects, which also gained support. Was carried out in the west wing of the palace Varaklani study, which also were found in the 18th century fresco paintings. In one of the museum's rooms were carried out restoration works of wall paintings. Restoration works carried out restorer of old master-Stanislavs Astics.
With its ancient aura, many legends and stories rich Varaklani city invites its visitors to walk through the labyrinths of the unknown, which is designed and operates Regional Museum. Maybe someone will hear how one of the castle walls, built-"Living Sword" revolves around its axis of blood-filled barrel, or mysterious "Big Boot’s" steps in stairways. In addition, the walking style of a romantic landscape park, where moss Kažavas overgrown banks of the river lies a mythical "Love Stone” and looks forward to the assurance of love, and it is likely that on a park path still roam the beautiful daughter of Count Jadwiga still living spirit in search of his beloved, and the days grow through the "devil's bridge" walking nifty Mr. and darkness occurs sits beneath it on a stone waiting for the thirteenth pair.
