The people of Ainaži know how to get things done: when the local mill, sawmill and large quantities of export-aimed timber burned down in a fire in 1925, tempers flew, but people dug in their heels and resolved never to feel so helpless again. Henceforth, they would take matters into their own hands with regards to keeping the community safe. And they still do. Ainaži Fire Fighting Museum, located in a facility of the local Volunteer Fire Fighters Association, gives plenty opportunity to feast your eyes and ears with the details of fire fighter life.
This is one of those few places where you won’t be scolded for touching a hand pump, a siren or a motor syringe. Better yet, the helmets stacked on the shelves, so reminiscent of the Star Wars Odyssey, are all but begging for a selfie. Easy! They may still smell of smoke from the fire put out the other day, but they are guaranteed to make you feel as though you were in space.
The museum is truly unique: if you come to Ainaži Fire Fighting Museum, you will meet and enjoy both history and the present, all in one place!
