After a large renovation project, the former villa of von Fircks, Baron of Okte, built in the late 19th century in the neoclassical style, became the home of Talsi District Museum with its rich collection and permanent displays about history, art and nature. The modern archaeology display reports about the daily lives of Curonians and Liivs up to the 17th century. The ethnography collection contains evidence about Curonian life in the 19th century, whereas artefacts in the national revival style tell about the formation period of the Republic of Latvia. Art is represented in the works of old masters. Meanwhile, natural diversity is revealed in habitat models, a taxidermy collection and a fossil collection.
Pupils are offered a wide range of educational programmes. Adults can have fun in a special programme for newlyweds and wedding guests. The offer also includes tours of the museum, the dendrological park and Talsi District.
