Aizpute Local History Museum is located in the old Manor House of Aizpute, 1 School Street.
We have created a pleasant and fitting home for old artefacts associated with historic events in the town of Aizpute. Here, they enjoy a “second life”, and each of the eight exhibition displays offered at the museum address visitors on a sensory level:
- “Country Farm” tells a story of domestic life and the virtue of work in Aizpute;
- “Soviet Repressions, 1941 and 1949” and “Sports in Aizpute” recall the sorrows and joys experienced by the locals;
- “Narrow-Gauge Rail Lines Aizpute-Liepāja and Aizpute-Saldus” tells an infinitely romantic tale about the “narrow-gauge train times” in Aizpute;
- “Main Street” invites on a leisurely walk along the so-called “Knüppelway” of the town's Main Street, which involves peeking into quite a few windows and exploring the different occupations of the local townspeople;
- “History of Aizpute through the Ages” illuminates the most important historic events of the past seven centuries;
- “Schoolhouse” allows experiencing the joy of reunion with childhood and youth;
- “Ancient Rural Crafts” introduces the old crafts, which can be learnt from a master artisan in a variety of workshops. Programmes to celebrate life’s major milestones are also on the offer.
