Museum territory retains remnants of unique elements of World War I field fortification associated with the legendary Christmas Battles. The open-air display of the Christmas Battles Museum features a reconstructed fragment of a fortifications system, recreated in its original location. It includes a dugout and part of the first line of German defence fortifications – “The German Wall”, a one-of-a-kind structure in the Baltic region.
Inside the museum, visitors can explore the exhibition “The Christmas Battles of Latvian Riflemen.” More than 200 photographs, battle plans and artefacts found in the area give a fascinating historical account about the events of the day.
The indoor facility also displays the largest battle site model in all of Latvia. It represents several square kilometres of territory with World War I fortifications, where Christmas Battles were fought.
