“Kalāči” welcomes its visitors with a beautiful landscape: a spacious courtyard, a pond, a small bathhouse, walking paths, flower beds reminiscent of a grandmother’s garden, oak trees planted by the Veidenbaums family, and the “Kalāči” clouds drifting like swans above the rural homestead.
In the shade of the trees stands Eduards Veidenbaums’ granary, where the poet lived from early spring until late autumn, spending his days studying, reading, translating, writing and reflecting. Visitors are welcome to linger in the granary and spend a quiet moment with Veidenbaums; on display is the laundry roller he used as a writing desk.
Facing the road, as if awaiting guests, stands a monument to Eduards Veidenbaums created by the artist L. Blumbergs. The museum exhibition tells the story of Veidenbaums’ personality, poetry, family, many talents and interests, his remarkably brilliant mind, years of study and worldview.
Visitors can also explore the exhibition hall, which houses Latvia’s most extensive collection of Vidzeme chests and presents household items from the 19th and 20th centuries. Art exhibitions are renewed every year.
Over time, events held on the last Sunday of May and the first Sunday of October have become a tradition, when the museum hosts activities dedicated to the poet, as well as the ever popular Museum Night. By the pond, in the well-equipped picnic area, visitors can relax, escape everyday routines and enjoy nature.
