The museum introduces a man of strong character, one of Latvia’s most prominent plant breeders, Pēteris Upīte (1896-1976), covering the beginnings of professional gardening in Dobele and the great horticulturalist’s present-day legacy.

In close cooperation with the Institute for Horticulture, the museum invites visitors to take a tour of the garden and learn about key directions of horticultural research, to explore the gene pool of Latvian fruit-trees and the traditional vegetable collection as well as take educational tours, attend lifelong learning programmes and tastings. The museum and the garden are a nationally significant cultural space with a lasting synergy between science and art, therefore, ach year, during the blooming season of Europe’s largest lilac collection, visitors can experience a wide range of cultural events aimed at different audiences.
