Gulbene District History and Art Museum is a citadel among North-East Latvian museums that not only focuses on the research and preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the area, but also actively offers innovative educational and artistic projects such as exhibitions, museum lessons, festivals and permanent displays. The museum’s main exhibition is located in the historic conservatory of Vecgulbene Manor. It covers all the principal events in local history and holds exhibitions about local luminaries, including one dedicated to two men named Jūlijs, Madernieks and Strame, which invites both visual and tactile exploration.
These two citizens of the world both laid the foundation for the museum’s international cooperation with countries from the Middle East. The museum has three structural units: the ethnographic collection facility “Granary”, the exhibition rooms at Stāmeriena Palace and the creative activity rooms in the Red Palace.
