Jānis Akuraters Museum is located in the poet’s family mansion built in 1933. The authentically furnished spaces, the works of famous Latvian artists on the walls, the pristine order on the poet’s writing desk and even the contents of the bathroom cabinet make it seem as though the visitor had stepped into the 1930s and the owner was expected home any minute. The atmosphere seems to transport the visitor back in time into the daily rhythm and festive ambience of creative intelligentsia from the 1930s.
Today, the writer’s home is one the principal cultural centres of Pārdaugava. As such, it continues to attract writers, artists, musicians and actors, much like in the days of Jānis Akuraters.
