Founded in 1959 as a branch of Ludza Local History Museum, it was renamed as Rēzekne Local History Museum in 1960. The current name, Latgale Culture and History Museum, was acquired in 1990.

Latgale Culture and History Museum is family friendly and especially exciting for pupils who can enjoy a wide range of educational programmes about topics rooted in Latgalian traditions and history. Researchers value its rich collection, comprised of more than 70,000 items with cultural, artistic, memorial and scientific value. Tourists are amazed by the world’s largest permanent display of Latgalian ceramics. The museum brings together epochs and personalities through brilliant exhibitions and creative workshops.
