The exhibition halls and history display of Limbaži Museum are located at 7 Burtnieku Street, in the former steward’s house of Pilsmuiža, the “new palace” commissioned by the city council of Rīga in the early 19th century. Here, visitors can see two exhibition displays – “City, District, Sea” about the history of Limbaži and its surroundings and “Baumaņu Kārlis and His Epoch” about the author of Latvia’s national anthem. In the two halls appointed for temporary showings, museum guests can enjoy a wide range of travelling and locally assembled thematic exhibitions and art exhibitions. Visitors to the museum can also expect a warm welcome at the souvenir salon that sells the products of local artisans and souvenirs associated with the town of Limbaži. History buffs can explore the adjacent mediaeval ruin of Limbaži Castle, a site of major historical significance back in the day on account of being one of the residences of the archbishop of Rīga. Its gate tower is unique to Latvia by virtue of having retained fragments of an exceptional latticed grille that used to dominate its portcullis.

During the summer season (early April – late October), visitors can also enjoy fantastic views of the town of Limbaži from the sightseeing tower built next to the ruins. In addition, guests of the town can explore the collection of technical devices displayed in the open storage facility of Limbaži Museum, located in the former depot building of the local Volunteer Fire Fighter Society at 3 Torņa Street, which dates back to the second half of the 19th century. Thrill seekers can walk the glass floors of the depot tower and see the old town from a bird’s eye view. Limbaži Museum offers guided tours of the museum and across the town, as well as museum education programmes on different topics.
