The exhibitions and displays of Naujenes Local History Museum present the cultural and historical heritage of the municipality and the protected landscape area “Augšdaugava”. The museum’s identity is strongly shaped by the art collection of sculptor Valentīna Zeile, who was born in Naujenes Parish. More than 6,000 works of art are displayed in the open collection “Valentīna Zeile’s Studio”, most of which were created before the sculptor moved to Paris (1956–1982).
The Great Augšdaugava Pattern Quilt was created at the museum with the participation of many residents of Latvia and international visitors. The museum’s exhibitions and displays also tell stories about the traditional crafts and skills of the inhabitants of the Daugava Valley and the surrounding area. Exhibitions dedicated to history, art, ethnography and nature provide insight into Latgalian, Polish, Lithuanian and Slavic cultural heritage.
