The museum is located near Arcadia Park and Māra’s Pond, in a more than 200-year-old building previously occupied by Jerusalem Inn. In its heyday, the inn received Garlībs Merķelis and Rihards Vāgners, whilst Johann Christoph Brotze perpetuated it in his drawings.
Poet Ojārs Vācietis lived in this house from January 1960 to the last day of his life. Here he crafted his unique poetic universe. The poet’s garden, study and drawing room, recordings of his voice, videos, digital display and personal belongings, such as his famous beret, sunglasses, globe, boxing gloves, pencils, handwritten notes and drawings, illuminate the world that he created.
The museum is a structural unit of the Memorial Museum Association.
