The museum gives a glimpse into the cultural history of Latgale, highlighting the importance of Latgalian language and Catholic traditions in its cultural life. It offers a wealth of information on the cultural and historical heritage, work traditions and daily life in Daugavpils District (mainly in the parishes of Vabole, Līksna, Kalupe and Nīcgale). The museum’s permanent exhibition “An Open Window – A Path of Light” tells the Skrinda family story who contributed to one of the most important events in Latgale’s recent history– the popular awakening, which covers the period from late 19th century to 1917. In addition, in 2019 the museum acquired new premises where visitors can order traditional Latgalian cuisine and learn the backgrounds of the featured dishes. Creative workshops and museum education programmes are also available for booking.
