In the very heart of Alūksne stands Alūksne New Palace, built by the von Vietinghoff family in the second half of the 19th century in the Tudor Neo-Gothic style. Today, the palace is home to Alūksne Municipality Museum.
Here, visitors can discover the history, art and cultural heritage of the town and municipality through a wide range of permanent and temporary exhibitions. Visitors are invited not only to observe, but also to take part in active and creative experiences.
The museum regularly hosts themed cultural events and educational activities for families and school groups, offering a meaningful, inspiring and discovery-filled way to spend time.
Guided tours are also available for groups by prior arrangement.

Set off on an engaging guided tour of Alūksne Municipality Museum and explore the rich history of the region, the story of Alūksne New Palace, the legacy of its former owners, the von Vietinghoff family, and the course of the palace restoration through 10 different exhibitions. The exhibitions also include hands-on activities that bring history to life and turn learning into an exciting adventure.
Guided tour of the restored music rooms of the palace
Experience the elegant atmosphere of the palace by visiting the restored music rooms of Alūksne New Palace and discovering the heritage left by the von Vietinghoff family. You will be surprised by the unique variety of interior finishes, complemented by the touching multimedia exhibition “Helena’s Song”, a personal and emotional story told by Baroness Helena, the last heiress of the manor, about the palace, its history and its people.
Guided tour of Alūksne Manor Park
Discover one of Latvia’s most beautiful historic parks and learn about the creation of Alūksne Manor Park, as well as its diverse world of plants and trees. The picturesque park landscape will take you on a journey into the past, offering a chance to admire the elegant small-scale architectural features of the 18th and 19th centuries, including historic pavilions, monuments and murmuring fountains. It is a place where nature meets art and stories of the past come to life at every step.
