The museum preserves the literary legacy of writer Herberts Dorbe (1894-1983) and other local authors. Children can follow the adventures of the lively and mischievous characters from one of Dorbe’ fairy tales, “It Happened on the Cat’s-Foot Boulevard” (1971), and solve picture puzzles made from its illustrations. The youngest visitors should enjoy readings of extracts from Dorbe’s ABC (1930) and an opportunity to make words out of sequences of illustrated letters. The museum has a beautiful garden, originally laid out and tended by Herberts Dorbe and his wife Valija, where pupils can learn the stories of trees, guess the height of a tree, measure their own height and the circumference of a tree trunk.
