According to plan, the Literature and Music Museum (LMM) should open its doors to visitors in the new exhibition house on 6 Mārstaļu Street in 2022. The new place will become home for an inspiring and experiential story about the creative paths of Latvian writers and musicians, with their individual features, doubts, strengths and ultimate recognition. The beginnings of museum collection can be traced to the early efforts by the Rīga Latvian Society to collect essential documentary heritage. Since 1925, when teacher Jānis Greste undertook systematic collection of literary and musical evidence, the LMM has grown into a nationally significant assemblage of historical heritage associated with Latvian writing, theatre and music. These three fundamental areas are supplemented with relevant cultural and historical artefacts from the art field and other disciplines.
