The former Limbaži Fire Fighters depot has been turned into an open storage facility for Limbaži Museum. The building was constructed during the second half of the 19th century in a brick style typical for the revivalist period.

The depot opened its doors to the public in December 2009 with two exhibition displays. One was made to illuminate the history of the Limbaži Volunteer Fire Fighters Society. The other was designed as an open-storage facility for the collection of technical devices contained at Limbaži Museum. Today, the open-storage display features 294 museum items: radios, television sets, cassette recorders and gramophones; cameras and photographic appliances; sewing machines and knitting machines; technical devices for cleaning; watches; typewriters; etc.
Visitors are welcome to take pictures in a fire engine, climb a narrow staircase and walk the glass-covered floors to the top of the depot tower, where the fifth-floor windows afford spectacular views across the central part of the old town.
The visit to the depot tower could be compared to the “Fear Factor” TV show, since the vast majority of the inter-floor area is covered in glass. The glass dome of the old water reservoir on the first floor reinforces the “shaft effect” and the uncanny feeling of “helpless depth” evoked by a view from the top. The original staircase with a substantial slant has been preserved on all tower floors. The relatively cumbersome climb and glass floors amplify the sense of the extreme. The fifth floor (semi-deck) windows afford spectacular views across the central part of the old town. The interiors of the tower and former garages have been restored, revealing the historical layer of paint on the first floor.
