One of the buildings in the museum complex is the residential house with a studio designed by Rozentāls. Its construction began in 1899. When construction works were finished, this local luminary stayed there for only two years (1901/1902) before moving his activity to Rīga. Saldus History and Art Museum named after Janis Rozentāls is the only place in Latvia that displays early original works by this grand master of Latvian painting. The few but beloved family heirlooms and personal belongings give a tantalising glimpse into the artist’s everyday life back in the day.
