Born in the 1830s, Stāmeriena Palace began as a cradle for barons. It withstood the riots of the 1905 Revolution and was used as an economic platform in the Soviet times. Today, the palace is reborn in all its aristocratic splendour and can rightly be called the pearl of romanticism in the crown of Latvia’s palaces. Behind the white walls built in the Neoclassical and Art Nouveau style, the vast palace staircase leads to the exhibition hall of Gulbene District History and Art Museum, where visitors can see a permanent display of paintings by locally affiliated artist Leo Svemps (19.07.1897.-07.03 .1975).
